My eyes opened when the sounds of hooting
entered my ears.
I lifted myself off the ground,
dirt sticking to my clothes.
The sloppy wet sensation
makes me shiver in discomfort.
I looked around for my cardigan,
just to see it nowhere…
nor were my friends.
They wouldn’t leave me in the
middle of the woods, right?
At least one would have
stayed or checked on me.
I began to make my way out,
following Weeping Willow Creek,
Which surprising lacks the trees
yet holds all tears.
It probably made the water there.
I began to see a light
announcing the entrance of
the campus.
I check my back pocket
for my dorm key,
sighing in relief
once I felt the outline of
my door key and my swipe
card.
The night was silent.
The music in the distance
can’t be heard,
just the sound of the owls,
little woodland critters,
and my shoes breaking
small twigs.
